Big Week for Kiona and Sheridan!

This is a big week for Kiona and Sheridan!

 

They qualified for USAG Regionals,

which will be held April 25-27

at the Galveston Convention Center

in Galveston, Texas.

 

These girls will be competing against the top Level 7 gymnasts

from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma,

New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming.

 

 

Kiona and Sheridan have come such a long way

since they walked in the doors at Aim High Academy,

and we congratulate them! 

 

Please join us in praying for safe travel

for these two girls, their families, and coach

and also for them to have an amazing experience at Regionals.

H I P H O P

HIP HOP dance refers to street dance styles

primarily performed to hip hop music.

 

On Monday evenings, Aim High Academy offers a class in

Hip Hop dance.

Although Michael makes this style of dance look easy,

this blogger bets the students feel very challenged!

 

Although Aim High Academy's main focus is to offer gymnastics,

we are also offering various forms of dance in an effort

to utilize the space with which we have been blessed.

 

And here's the good news: we have room for more students

in our dance classes!

We currently offer the following classes:

Ballet

Hip Hop

African Dance

Did You Know?

According to the Tulsa County Health Profile released in 2010,

the zip codes served by Aim High Academy had

the highest % of mothers with less than a 12th grade education.

 

Participation in sports has the power to change a girl’s life.

Research shows that young women who participate in sports

have higher grades and perform better on standardized tests than non-athletes.

 and African-American female athletes are 15% more likely to graduate from college

 compared to their non-athletic peers.

Also, high school girls who participate in sports wait longer before having sex

for the first time than their peers who don’t participate in sports.

 

Aim High Academy, a 501(c)(3), was founded in 2006 with classes beginning in 2007 at the John 3:16 Family and Youth Center. In just 7 years…

·         We have grown to serve over 250 precious children each week in a 20,000 square foot facility.

·         We have a team of 29 gymnasts representing North Tulsa in Statewide competitions, 2 of which became State Champions this year and are headed to the Regional Championships in Galveston on April 24^th.

·         We have a volunteer based tutoring program providing homework help to all Aim High families on Monday and Thursday evenings.

·         We now offer dance classes (ballet and hip-hop) to the community.

·         Beginning mid-April we will offer fitness classes (Zumba and African Dance) for parents while they wait on their kids.

·         We have an exhibition team who has performed twice at OKC Thunder games and performs every year at the opening game for the Tulsa Shock and participates in the MLK Jr. Parade.

Most importantly, we teach all of our kids

that God made each of them special

with a purpose and a plan for each of their lives.

USAG StateMeet

On Saturday, March 15, the Oklahoma USAG State Meet

was held in Bartlesville.

Aim High Academy has five gymnasts

who compete in USAG.

This year's state meet was the first state meet

for our three Level 6 gymnasts;

our two Level 7 gymnasts competed in their first state meet last year.

 

Our Level 6 Team before their competition:

Allie finished strong after a rocky start,

Jamarie hit all of her routines (4 for 4),

and Skylar was State Champion on Vault!

Kiona was the Level 7 All-Around State Champion!

Sheridan and Kiona qualified for the Level 7 Regionals

which will be held in Galveston in late April.

We are proud of our gymnasts!
Each one of them has worked hard this year.

And we wish Kiona and Sheridan

We Have a Sign!!!

Outside Aim High Academy today:

 

 

Within 30 minutes of the sign installation,

someone called wanting information about our program.

We hope this new sign attracts many more students to Aim High Academy!

Aim High competes at the Phillips 66 SuperStar Championships

Sunday, March 2, was a challenge!

Unfortunately, sleet and snow forced Aim High to cancel

the Level 2 and Level 3 late afternoon session of the meet in Bartlesville for our girls,

as the highways were getting hazardous
and we were concerned for the safety of our students and their families.

The Level 4 and Xcel Level competed early in the morning:

Kiara's beam routine was so pretty!

What flexibility!

She took 1st Place All-Around at the Xcel Level.

Prayer is a huge part of our competitions.

We have so much for which to thank God!

Nadia Comaneci International Invitational Meet

The Nadia Comaneci International Invitational Meet

was held February 21-23, 2014,

at the Cox Arena in Oklahoma City.

 

 

More than 1,500 Level 2 through Level 10 USAG and AAU gymnasts

from all around the U.S. participated in the competition.

 

Aim High Academy entered five USAG gymnasts.

 

Kiona and Sheridan competed in the Level 7 division.

 

Sheridan took 1st place on vault!

Nadia - The First Perfect 10

Born in 1961, Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci became the first woman to score

a perfect 10 in an Olympic gymnastics event at the Olympic Games.

She thrilled the world at those 1976 games in Montreal, Canada,

where, at the age of 14, she became the first woman to score a perfect 10!

She won three gold medals: uneven bars, balance beam and individual all-around.

At the 1980 Olympics, she won gold medals for the balance beam and floor exercise.

Nadia retired from competition in 1984 and defected to the United States in 1989.

She married American gymnast Bart Conner in 1996

 and they now live in Norman, Oklahoma.

 

Aim High's Level 6s and Level 7s have worked hard to achieve their levels.

They each won ribbons and/or medals for their placement in the events:

Vault, Floor Exercise, Bars, and Beam

 

We are proud of our optionals team!

Their hard work and dedication has led to many successes,

and we look forward to the Oklahoma State Gymnastics Meet

on March 15th.

KELLI STONE

A busy mom of two, Kelli works as a recruiter for professional engineers.

Kelli loves to read and play golf.

Her favorite food is filet mignon and her favorite holiday is Christmas.

Kelli's daughter, Taylor, has been a student at Aim High for 4 years.

If she could travel anywhere, she would probably go to Europe.

Her favorite Bible verse is John 3:16:

JENNA BRENNAN

Jenna is a mother of 5 and is an aerobics instructor.

She learned about Aim High from an article in Tulsa People magazine

and now has 4 girls enrolled in the our program:

Anna, Kara, Autumn, and Lizzy.

Jenna's favorite movie is Braveheart

and one of her favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 4:23:

Equipment had to be taken apart, moved out, and returned to its place.
